Ideas swarmed through my mind. Where this piece of writing could go and what themes it could have. In the end, I found it easier just to express a meta commentary as that comes more naturally than writing a go-ahead plot. I have a small vexation that I can’t create characters to populate my stories with ease. They (meaning the characters) always appear to be shadows of people, not real multifaceted people, but hollow simulacra.
The spaceship landed next to me. I didn’t find it weird at all, in fact a spaceship landing next to me seemed as normal as shoes being tied to my feet. Odd, turn of phrase, but you get what I mean. I hopped into the spaceship without any difficulties. I simply approached it and entrance simply opened from the smooth, unmarked surface of the vehicle. I stepped inside. The interior was in a modern style with a side containing information. Information is kind of a vague way to describe it, but it was both in a script I understood, but also with pictorial diagrams with numbers and glyphs that I didn’t understand, but I felt if I spent enough time with them, I would understand them more completely that the rather archaic language that I am using right now. The furniture was functional and in a style which resembled of my region, but more elegant, without a hint of ostentation.
The ship didn’t use some artificial voice to talk to me, nor were there any crew other than myself. I instead was displayed visual information conveying me information I needed to know for my context. There weren’t videos rather, the information was written in my language and in a vastly improved Ithkuil-esque script. The visual information seemed to tap into my linguistic learning processes in my brain. I felt I could comprehend more complex information quicker.
The ship wasn’t quiet either, but it mostly was playing softly neoclassical, triphop and ambient in a combination that invoked familiarity of artists that I listened to, also something new and immaculately crafted. The music weaved in many genres and motifs. It allowed me to get use to the environment of learning. Getting up to date in an intellectual sense.
I became aware of updates in the sciences, philosophy and mathematics. To my surprise there were also books in this ship which I read and reread. Some where literature which I had heard of before, and others were ones that I had no awareness that they even existed. I pondered why such an advanced ship would have such primitive artifacts and the conclusion that I drew was that these were artifacts which could be taken off the ship without seriously potentially disrupting culture that they were brought into.
I got off the ship. I knew we had arrived on my planet in a different era. One that was future to my own. I realised that the ship wanted to give its crew (being me at the time) agency. Sure, it could solve what ever situation that was presented before it, but its designers had evidently given it an agenda to only cursorily brush past people and things it contacted. It had gone elsewhere while I was inside performing some tasks, but when it released me, it had barely impacted any of this planetary environment outside of myself. I took a few of the books which I wanted to bring. I wasn’t sure how I would be able to integrate my self back into society, but I knew I could. I knew that the ship had tampered with the bare minimum of the bureaucratic systems so that I would be a legitimate citizen.
